Distilled at Knockdhu in the Highlands, anCnoc is the modern name given to the distillery's single malt to avoid confusion with Knockando. The distillery itself dates from the 1890s and today sits within the Inver House portfolio, but anCnoc has been positioned as a distinctly contemporary expression of traditional Highland malt, combining long-established production methods with a cleaner, more modern presentation.
The brand's growth has been aided by a thoughtful relaunch and by a presentation style that strongly appeals to enthusiasts. Many expressions are bottled at 46% ABV and, throughout much of the range, anCnoc emphasizes natural presentation, avoiding chill filtration and added color. This approach, combined with careful cask selection, has helped the whisky develop a loyal following among drinkers who appreciate both clarity of flavor and good value.
The house style is typically light, fragrant and finely balanced, often displaying notes of honey, vanilla, citrus and soft orchard fruit, sometimes with a subtle thread of smoke beneath the surface. Alongside these delicate, fruit-forward bottlings, anCnoc has also revealed a more overtly peated side in releases such as Peatheart, showing that the distillery can deliver more than one style while still maintaining its underlying elegance.
